Outings

Just as The Android was coming down from the gig high on Saturday, an extremely nice client extended an exclusive invitation for The Android to get up-close and personal with Foo Fighters! That’s right, peeps… right here in fucked-up Singapore!

The venue was Fashion Bar at Clarke Quay and the place was packed with lots of local celebrities, pretentious socialites and beautiful plastic people. Apparently, it was some publicity event organised by Sony BMG to promote Foo Fighters’ sixth studio album, Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace, to the local media. Whatever man… Shan and The Android were busy helping themselves to the free-flow of alcohol.

When the band finally decided to grace the crowd with their presence, The Android was disappointed that only Dave Grohl and Nate Mendel showed up. The Android was so looking forward to meeting Taylor Hawkins in person. Regardless, they joked a bit, introduced their forthcoming album (slated for a 24th September local release) and then disappeared to grab some grub. Nate didn’t seem too keen on the whole focus group shite, as he commented that “…this feels like a job interview”. Dave wasn’t impressed with the emcee’s introduction of the band either.

So Dave and Nate sneak off for their dinner, the guests were presented with the new record and has it already been mentioned that Shan and The Android were busy helping themselves to the free-flow of alcohol? BURP! Anyhoo… if you asked The Android, the new album has a couple of catchy tracks but it ain’t no where near In Your Honor or even Nothing Left To Lose. Yet you never know… Foo Fighters material are known to grow on you.

When the two blokes returned to mingle with the crowd, everyone rushed to get an autograph and camera flashes went crazy. The Android managed to get a photo taken with Nate! It was difficult reaching Dave, though. First and foremost, being the band’s front man, he was naturally hogged. Secondly, the fucker was quite the chee hong and allowed himself to be photographed mostly with the chicks. Last of all, he was only available for like, 5 lousy minutes before the bodyguards escorted him out of the area.

Nevermind the bollocks… The Android’s one happy dude.

Outings

The Android attended Dua Jiak’s (大隻) wedding dinner last night at Meritus Mandarin.

Meeting up with all those crazy blokes from camp again on this happy occasion was an inevitable call for drinks and tomfoolery. After all the beers and senseless yum seng, The Android’s voice is currently in turmoil with just 4 days to go till the gig…

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

The Android collected Ah Ly’s hard disk drive after work… and ended up attending Piana’s concert held at Substation with Clara and Cain. Piana is this Japanese artiste who plays electronica and experimental sounds. The Android didn’t know either… he just found out.

When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised by the free flow of Asahi beer they were offering at the door! Now, we all know that booze and music equates indescribable bliss! Halfway through the local opening acts however, The Android was beginning to wonder if the 40 dollars was worth it. Somehow it seemed, booze and experimental music equates uncontrollable snooze. Yet all negativity were eventually put to rest when it came Piana’s turn to perform.

Anyone who plays an instrument of music automatically gets two thumbs up from The Android… and this chick is really something else. Apart from doing vocals, Piana plays the guitar, recorder, xylophone, and from what The Android heard, the piano as well! When she began to sing, it was like every anime fanboy’s dream come true. KAWAII NE! When she spoke in that sweet and musical voice of hers, you could almost see half the guys in the theatre falling into a swoon. KAWAII NE! When she did her best to relate (in heavily-accented English) her sight-seeing and dining experience in Singapore… KAWAII NE! When the audience cheered for an encore, she coyly returned to stage and apologised that she did not plan for any additional tracks. Now is that KAWAII or what??? Piana is cool lah. Her music didn’t sound experimental, that’s for sure… and that’s a good thing!

Definitely worth the 40… OH CRAP! The Android still owes Clara 20 bucks!
