Will you do the fandango?

The Android went to watch a musical at the Esplanade. Yes, you heard it right the first time.

We Will Rock You is a musical based on the songs by Queen – written by English comedian and author Ben Elton, in collaboration with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor. Set in a future where creativity is dead and musical instruments are banned, the story tells of a dreamer’s adventures in restoring rock n’ roll to the world. The actors delivered the songs brilliantly, the script was witty as Hell, and the live band provided one heckuva performance.

This musical is refreshing and one-of-a-kind. Has anyone stomped their feet and head-banged at a musical? The Android has.

The Android admits he is not a huge fan of hip hop… and yet this very night, an extremely refreshing genre of music was presented before him at the Esplanade.

The Roots are really something else. Yes, they are a hip hop band. A hip hop band heavily infused with jazz, rock and blues influences. A hip hop band that plays musical instruments “live”. A hip hop band that will simply blow your mind.

These guys played for an-hour-and-a-half non-stop with so much energy and presence, it left the audience breathless and begging for more. Founding member, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s performance on drums and Captain Kirk Douglas’ guitar skills were simply amazing. Tuba Gooding Jr’s antics on stage was also an extreme delight to watch. The Android is fuckin’ impressed.

It was a fantastic gig. Kudos to the Mosaic Festival organisers for bringing in this awesome band.

JYeah!

Went for drinks on Friday night with the peeps from O.

After all the different hangouts we have tried, we still find ourselves going back to Ballymoon’s time and again. They have the creamiest Kilkenny and Guinness you can find on a local tap. For house pour scotch, they serve McCallen 12. They even have Flaming Absinthe for people who desperately seek The Green Fairy.

The live acoustic performances are great most of the time too, though they should stop changing their regular acts so frequently. This place is chillout lah. The Android likes to chillout. The Android HATES to get drunk. Chillout is good. Remember that.

They currently have a cute bartender even. Kahong took this shot of her preparing… preparing… um… preparing what now?
