D'oh!

Actually intended to catch Paprika last night with the gang at work. However, tickets for the 9.25pm show were already sold out by 7.15pm. It came as no surprise either. The Picturehouse is quite the tiny theatrette and the ONLY place screening the movie.

So we settled for the next best thing that was available… The Simpsons Movie. Once again, it is proven that tragedy is the true essence of all good comedy. As always, Homer brings about certain doom upon Springfield, then embarks on a journey to redeem himself. A formula that has been done to death, if you asked The Android. But hey, if it works… WHO GIVES A SHIT?!?

Green Day and Tom Hanks make hilarious cameo appearances. The Android also has two words for you: Spider Pig.

Order of the Phoenix

In a nutshell, the latest Harry Potter movie tells of political unrest within J.K. Rowling’s magical world, and how Harry and friends decide to form a 天地會 within Hogwarts School of Wizardry & Witchcraft to rebel against the new school administration.

Though not awfully packed on action, this installment was rather informative on plot development. Interesting characters like Luna Lovegood (Evanna Lynch), Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) and Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter) make their debut appearances as well. But that pretty much sums it up. Director David Yates’ approach and treatment to the franchise is nothing to scream about.

Death Proof

The Android watched Death Proof last night with Jerry. By the end of the movie, The Android was laughing and clapping like a spastic. This movie is about the very psychotic Stuntman Jack (Kurt Russell), terrorising leggy chicks with his “Death Proof” automobile.

Death Proof happens to be Quentin Tarantino’s latest directorial effort and a tribute to B-grade films in the 70s. Originally packaged under a 2-movies-in-1 gore fest named Grind House in the States, this movie gets separated from its other half and is screened as a stand-alone over here.

The other half of the Grind House package, Planet Terror will only be released here later this year. It’s a movie about zombies and it’s directed by Tarantino’s pal, Robert Rodrigeuz.
