Outings

Went for drinks on Friday night with the peeps from O.

After all the different hangouts we have tried, we still find ourselves going back to Ballymoon’s time and again. They have the creamiest Kilkenny and Guinness you can find on a local tap. For house pour scotch, they serve McCallen 12. They even have Flaming Absinthe for people who desperately seek The Green Fairy.

The live acoustic performances are great most of the time too, though they should stop changing their regular acts so frequently. This place is chillout lah. The Android likes to chillout. The Android HATES to get drunk. Chillout is good. Remember that.

They currently have a cute bartender even. Kahong took this shot of her preparing… preparing… um… preparing what now?

Food

Darren strongly recommended Marutama’s popular hand-made ramen, located at Central. So being one who thinks with his stomach, The Android dragged Shan along after a hard day’s work to satisfy our gastronomical appetites. As the restaurant’s kinda small, we had to queue for about 20 minutes before seats were available… and sniffing all that wondrous fragrance while waiting in line can be torture.

Being really porky people, both of us ordered the Chashu Iri Ramen with an additional half-boiled egg. Take note that Marutama only serves chicken-base soup, as well as this other highly dubious nuts-base soup that The Android refuses to try.

Darren suggests that you should let the noodles soak for a good minute before proceeding with your barbaric slurping. The Android did just that and oochi mama! The ramen is indeed superb stuff… soaks up the soup really well and it is extremely rich in chewy goodness. The chashu is wicked stuff too! Can’t say the same about the soup, though. It was exactly what The Android thought it would taste like… boring chicken soup. Then again, that’s because the soup is incomplete without its condiments! Simply add the deep fried garlic slices provided into your broth and you will taste the difference. Mmmmm…

The food served at this place is a little on the pricey side. We ended up forking out $20 each for just the ramen. Yet, that ain’t gonna stop The Android from coming back again. Only next time, calling to make a reservation would seem to be the wiser choice.

Oh… and people who like their noodles soggy need not bother. Stop looking around, Curly. That means you.
