The occasion this time was to celebrate Clare’s birthday. So the makan gang decided to grab their grub at the relatively steep Prego Italian Restaurant at Raffles The Plaza, as Curly had a 25% discount voucher.
The restaurant decor had a warm, homely feel to it, and its spacious open-kitchen concept gave the place its Italian touch. What The Android does not understand, however, is the required smart casual dress code. If this was truly a family restaurant, why can’t a guy chill out with his family in berms and tee? Whatever…

Moving along, we placed our orders. Gary wanted to be adventurous and tried the spinach gnocchi with crab meat. When the dish arrived, The Android’s gotta admit it didn’t look like much. Yet, according to Gary, it’s got it where it counts. Hmmm…
Still trying to find another place to top Da Paolo’s squid ink pasta, The Android ordered the squid ink tagliolini with lobster. Once again, The Android was disappointed. The pasta’s tomato-based sauce seemed to be covering-up for the tagliolini’s lack of squid flavour. The lobster did not cause a foodie reaction, but it was alright. Da Paolo’s still Da Bomb… nuff said.
The rest of the peeps chose to be on the safe side and ordered cabonara, which turned out to be exactly what it was… carbonara. On top of our main courses, we had soups, salads, pizza and a bottle of Mellot to pass around.

Coming to dessert, the Zucotto kahlua ice cream cake sprinkled with cookie crumbs and doused in caramel sauce merits a mention. Be sure to eat it WITH the dark chocolate cake crust… oochi mama.
This is definitely a “visit-with-voucher-only” dining place. Before the discount, the bill came to about $65 per head. The food’s good, but it ain’t great. At least not good enough that The Android would wanna make excuses to come back again.
